Six Titles in 2026: Wessel Nijman on His Way to the Top of the World

May 6, 2026 , ,

In an era where the giants of the darts world like Luke Littler, Luke Humphries, or Gian van Veen regularly dominate the headlines, a young Dutchman is increasingly stepping into the spotlight: Wessel Nijman.

Quietly but with impressive consistency, the 24-year-old is currently playing the best darts of his life on the ProTour. The Dutchman has already won six titles this year – more than any other professional on the tour. A major milestone among them: his first title on the Winamax PDC European Tour at the ELTEN Safety European Darts Trophy in Göttingen. An achievement that is not only symbolic of his breakthrough but also demonstrates that Nijman has long since arrived on the big stages.

Dominance on the ProTour

What makes Nijman’s current run so remarkable is less a single sensational victory and more the impressive regularity of his performances. A look at the Players Championship record: five titles in just twelve tournament appearances. A strike rate that, in its time, was only surpassed by a certain Phil Taylor.

In the current era of the PDC, such a figure is almost unmatched. For comparison: James Wade also won five floor titles back in 2019 – but required 18 events to do so. Nijman, on the other hand, reached this mark in significantly fewer attempts, joining an exclusive club: only seven players in history have managed to win at least five Players Championship titles in a single calendar year.

The consequence of this consistency is also evident in the rankings. With £258,000 in prize money, Nijman currently leads the ProTour Order of Merit and has built a comfortable lead of £83,250 over Gerwyn Price. A mere snapshot? Hardly. Rather, it is the result of extraordinary consistency that translates into results week after week.

Focus Over Record-Chasing

Also noteworthy is Nijman’s own perspective on his success. Instead of letting himself be driven by numbers and records, he consciously focuses on his game:

“I’m really pleased I won another one. I don’t really care about records, I care about the form I’m playing right now.”

This attitude is reflected on stage: no grand emotions, no exaggerated spectacle – just a player who knows exactly what he is doing. In a phase where a new generation led by players like Luke Littler is causing a stir, Nijman positions himself in his own way: less loud, but at least as effective.

His current run is no accident. It is based on maturity, consistency, and a clear focus. And that is exactly what makes him one of the most dangerous players on the tour right now. Wessel Nijman is no longer just an insider tip. With his performances in 2026, he has played his way to the top.

The decisive question is no longer if he will win his first Major title. It is when.
