Tradition Meets a New Venue: The Battle for the Iconic Janker in Graz

April 29, 2026 ,
Martin Schindler gewinnt die Austrian Darts Open 2025 in der Steiermarkhalle in Premstätten.

Die ELTEN Safety Shoes Austrian Darts Open 2026 are writing the twelfth chapter of their impressive history, blending tradition with a brand-new setting. Originally held in 2012 as the very first tournament of the Winamax PDC European Tour, this classic event now returns in a fresh guise. From May 8th to 10th, the elite of European darts will make its debut at the Stadthalle Graz.

Hardly any other event on the European Tour can look back on such a storied past. Following stops at the Arena Nova, the Salzburgarena, the Multiversum, and the Steiermarkhalle, the tournament is now opening a new chapter, bringing the unique atmosphere of professional darts to the Styrian capital.

The “Janker” as a Special Trademark

Speaking of attire—one very special tradition remains part of the Austrian Darts Open in Graz. The tournament winner is presented with a traditional Janker. This symbol has long since achieved cult status and represents one of the most prestigious titles on the Tour.

Last year, Martin Schindler had the honor of donning this unique garment. With his triumph, the German player simultaneously made history. As the first and, so far, only player, “The Wall” secured at least one PDC title in all three countries of the DACH region.

Schindler Arrives in Graz as the Hunted

Accordingly, Schindler arrives this year as the defending champion and will be the man to beat in Graz. The competition could hardly be more elite. Numerous top stars from the international darts scene will do everything in their power to challenge the German for his title and add their own names to the winners’ list of this tradition-steeped tournament. With four titles, Michael van Gerwen leads this ranking unchallenged.

Fans can also look forward to a genuine highlight. The new venue promises a captivating backdrop. Thousands of spectators will transform the Stadthalle Graz into a “Hexenkessel” (cauldron), providing the unmistakable atmosphere that has characterized the European Tour for years.

Everything is set for a weekend full of emotion, great stories, and world-class darts. Secure your tickets HERE for the start of a new era.
